ABOUT THE PRESENTATION
Ever hear a word so frequently it loses its meaning? Supply chain professionals are constantly presented with new supply chain buzzwords, but when there are so many people talking all at once it can be difficult to decipher which ones are relevant to which problems. In this presentation, Marcus Bugni and Justin Wilcox will dive into 10 common supply chain buzzwords, re-codify their meanings, and explain why or if these concepts deserve your attention. This presentation will explore large topics such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, resilience and blockchain in addition to some smaller ones such as demand sensing, agile supply chain, gemba, big data, omnichannel and stand-up meetings. The audience will walk away with a firm understanding of each term as well as which ones to tie back to their organization to solve everyday, tangible problems.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Justin Wilcox, CPIM, is a senior supply chain manager at Jeld-Wen, where he oversees purchasing and planning execution for several manufacturing facilities throughout North America. Formerly, he was the senior manager of materials management at Cirrus Aircraft in Duluth, Minn., with a focus on supply chain transformation, including the development of supply chain process tools and the transformation from push to pull systems. Prior to joining Cirrus, Wilcox worked at Oshkosh Corp., where he helped to implement a global plan for every part strategy. He has been active in ASCM since 2015 and achieved the Certified in Production and Inventory Management designation in 2017. Wilcox holds a bachelor’s degree in operations and supply chain management from the University of Wisconsin — Eau Claire and a master’s degree in operations management from the University of Arkansas. He also is the cofounder and co-host of “The Strongest Link Supply Chain Podcast,” a podcast dedicated to exploring supply chain concepts through current events, knowledgeable guests and humorous stories. His passions in supply chain are the intersection of physical and digital processes and fostering bottom-up transformation. He has presented about digital transformation at the 2022 ASCM Connect conference and was published in the Winter 2023 edition of the Journal of Supply Chain Management, Logistics and Procurement.
Marcus Bugni, CPIM, CASP, works as a master planner at Andersen Corp. in Bayport, Minn. He earned a degree in operations and supply chain management and a certificate in information systems from the University of Wisconsin — Eau Claire. Bugni also earned the Certified in Planning and Inventory Management designation from ASCM and is a Certified Advanced Supply Chain Professional through Skill Dynamics. Along with Justin Wilcox, he presented about the topic of digital transformation at the 2022 ASCM Connect conference and co-wrote an article about the same topic for the Journal of Supply Chain Management, Logistics and Procurement. Bugni’s fascination with supply chain buzzwords comes not only from the miscommunication they cause but also from the lost opportunities from not knowing the buzzword's true meaning and appropriate application.
